Lake Arenal

Lake Arenal is located within the Arenal National Park of Costa Rica. Thanks to its positioning, Lake Arenal plays an important role in Costa Rica’s sustainable energy production and is the main source of power for the country’s hydroelectricity program. Now spanning an area of 85.5 kilometers, Lake Arenal is three times its original size.

Additionally, when you visit Lake Arenal, you’ll notice an impressive installation of wind turbines. Situated to the south west of Lake Arenal in Tilarán, Guanacaste, these 22 spinning giants belong to Costa Rica’s largest wind farm, which is just another example of Costa Rica’s clean energy sources.

Consistent winds not only make this an excellent location for the production of renewable energy; Costa Rica’s Lake Arenal the perfect spot for windsurfing and kite surfing all year round!
