Costa Rica is a small country that packs a lot of punch. First, it is brimming with white-sand beaches, lush rainforests, volcanoes, and waterfalls. Second, this small strip of land enjoys both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. Lastly, there are so many different activities to enjoy all throughout your wedding celebration.

If you are planning to tie the knot in beautiful Costa Rica, there are many things to consider. In light of that, this little guide will get you started in the right direction.

But first, the basics.

Marriage license. There is no residency requirement. However, couples will need to make sure their passports are valid for at least six months after their departure date. You will also need your birth certificates, any information about previous marriages, and your parent’s names. In addition, include two witnesses who are not in your family. They will need to provide their passports to the officiant prior to the ceremony.

What is the best time of the year? A wedding in Costa Rica fairs well if it takes place between December and May, as this is the dry season. Having said that, couples get married here all year round, and many do take advantage of lower rates during this time. Temperatures average around 80-85 during the day; dipping to the mid-’60s and ’70s at night. Also, unlike other tropical destinations, Costa Rica is hurricane-free!

Now, the details.

Hire a Wedding Coordinator

One who specializes in destination weddings. They will be able to take care of the details, such as securing local and trusted vendors in Costa Rica. This can be for such things as catering, flowers, photography, etc. Talk with them about exactly what you want for your wedding and reception so that they can take the reigns and you can concentrate on other areas.

Keeping Your Guests Informed

As you send out the invitations, this is a good time to include a “Costa Rica fun packet.”  Information such as accommodation, passport information, activities during the reception and also information about other activities. By the same token, you can include a packing list and any other additional costs they may incur while traveling to be with you on your special day.

Booking the Venue

Since Costa Rica is becoming such a popular wedding destination, try to book at least 12-18 months in advance. That way, you are sure to secure the dates that you want. Also, this is a good time to notify your guests and get RSVPs for a good headcount.
