Thanks to last year’s successful musical event, the immensely popular Costa Rican International Jazz Festival has returned in 2011.  San Jose will be filled with the sweet tunes of jazz from July 26th to August 9th.

San Jose and All That Jazz

Talented Jazz musicians from around the world have descended upon the bustling town of San Jose, which is the main setting for this Costa Rica music festival.

With expert musicians from the United States, Germany, Japan, France and, of course, Costa Rica,  eager to make this year’s Jazz festival an even bigger sensation, this 14 day event is packed with promising jazz performances.

The Teatro Eugene O’Neill, at the Costa Rican Cultural Center, will host the majority of jazz concerts, with the National Theatre and Melico Salazar theatre also offering a select number of jazz performances.

Students from New York University and the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York City will perform traditional jazz sets, while Berklee College of Music students and groups from across the globe will present contemporary pieces.

International Jazz artists visiting Costa Rica will include French musician Alex Terrier, Germany’s Schultzing and Yayoi Ikawa of Japan. Grammy award-winning Tico jazz group Editus will also make an appearance at this Costa Rica event.

Furthermore, a series of free exhibitions dedicated to Jazz will also be on display in San Jose.
