Costa Rica tourism figures already breaking records

The Costa Rica Expedia campaign will run from July 2011 –July 2012 and principally focuses on attracting U.S tourists to Costa Rica. This is significant considering that of the 2 million tourists that visited Costa Rica in 2010, a total of 252,468, 54%, were from North America.

Furthermore figures recently released by the I.C.T confirm that tourism arrival figures for Costa Rica have risen by 6% in the first three months of 2011. A significant increase of 26% in tourism arrivals were recorded at the Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste Costa Rica, where 100,864 of the arriving tourists were from North America.

Liberia International Airport services the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, which is home to world famous beaches including Playa Tamarindo, Santa Teresa, Playa Hermosa, Playa Samara, Playa Langosta, Playa Conchal and many more.

The announcement of this online marketing strategy comes only weeks after the Minnesota-based Sun Country

Airlines announced it would be initiating non stop flights to Liberia International Airport throughout Costa Rica’s high season.

At total sum of $240,000 will be invested into the Expedia venture and the institute will be responsible for paying half of this fee.  Website banners and promotional packages specifically related to the top destinations in Costa Rica will frequently feature on Expedia.

Expedia and Costa Rica already have a successful history

This is not the first time that Expedia promoted Costa Rica as a beach and sun vacation destination; in 2007 it successfully attracted 14,850 additional tourism arrivals to the country.

Expedia is an internet based travel site that offers a comprehensive booking system that allows tourists to book flights, accommodation and car rentals online.

During a time when internet based travel agencies are reporting significant increases in bookings, the deal I.C.T has signed with Expedia has the potential to significantly increase tourism arrivals to  Costa Rica.
